Mr. Andrew E. Kaufman,   Senior Associate

Tel.: 609.538.0444 ext 111

Background
  • Joined CDI in 1987
  • 1980-87, Hewlett Packard Company
  • M.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Rutgers Univ., 1987
  • B.S.E., Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, Princeton University, 1980
Research Interests
After joining CDI, his initial work involved the development of several base drag reduction concepts for tractor trailers, and the development of hardware and instrumentation required to test a full scale tractor trailer in the NASA/Ames 80' x 120' wind tunnel. Mr. Kaufman has also developed instrumentation and models for pharmaceutical products and processes, including a pressure measurement system for metered dose aerosols and a test system to determine the force and impulse from aerosol sprays. His modeling work includes a one-dimensional, unsteady, two phase computer model of aerosol sprays and regression models to minimize tablet coating variation. He has directed a wide range of engineering development projects, including testing of optimized water delivery systems for fire fighting aircraft, demonstration of a novel ultraviolet curing process for composite structures, and the testing of inhalers using ultrasonic atomization processes. In recent years, he has also taken a leading role in design and testing of advanced debris strainers for cooling water reservoirs for nuclear power plants.
