PRODUCTS   PMARC-Express

NASA's PMARC-12 code is a low-order panel code for modeling complex three-dimensional bodies in potential flow. The PMARC-14 code expands upon the capabilities of PMARC-12, providing an ability to simulate time-dependent flows around multiple bodies in relative motion. PMARC-14 includes many advanced features allowing the simulation of both fixed and evolving wakes for steady and unsteady flows, rotating bodies, oscillatory motions, prescribed motion of multiple bodies (individual paths for each body), and internal flows. A wide range of motions can be prescribed including translation, rotation, oscillatory translation, oscillatory rotation and general path descriptions for each body. One can also compute off-body and on-body streamlines, and boundary layer parameters using a two-dimensional integral boundary layer method for laminar and turbulent flows. Those currently using PMARC-12 will find an easy transition to PMARC-14 since there have been only minor additions to the input file formats to provide for modeling of multiple bodies in relative motion.

PMARC-Express offers all the features of PMARC-14 combined with the performance benefits of our proprietary fast panel technologies. For most problems, PMARC-Express delivers an order of magnitude or more reduction in both computation time and storage requirements. PMARC-Express has been applied in simulations for geometries with over 100,000 panels. Typical results for a NACA0012 wing simulation on a 700 MHz Windows 2000 PC are shown in the following two figures. The first figure compares the computation time using PMARC-Express and the standard PMARC-14. Observe that for a 7,200 panel configuration there is a 10-fold reduction in the computation time using the fast panel approach. In addition, as shown in the second figure, the memory required to run these calculations is also much lower for PMARC-Express. A 6-fold reduction in memory is achieved with PMARC-Express (7,200 panel configuration). For larger simulations the reductions in both CPU and Memory are greater than an order of magnitude.

PMARC-Express provides you with a flow simulation tool that allows the analysis of highly detailed geometries and delivers the computational performance needed to explore a much wider range of design configurations. All this is possible on a PC class machine. PMARC-Express is available today for MS-Windows PC, Linux PC, HP and SGI platforms. The source code for PMARC-14 standard is also provided with PMARC-Express for development of custom user applications.
